Heat Advisory
Statement as of 6:27 PM CDT on July 23, 2008

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Thursday...

A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Thursday for the
following counties...

In Oklahoma...
Osage... Washington... Nowata... Pawnee... Tulsa... Rogers... Creek...
Wagoner.

Heat index values of around 1o0 degrees continue early this
evening across the advisory area. These values will slowly
fall after sunset.

Some portions of southeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas have
seen scattered thunderstorms that have provided some relief from
the high temperatures.

The area will see temperatures soar into the upper 90s to near
100 degrees again Thursday afternoon. These temperatures combined
with the high relative humidity will create the heat index values
of 105 to 110 degrees.

This heat advisory may be expanded and possibly upgraded to an
excessive heat warning as temperatures are forecast to exceed
the century mark across much the advisory area this weekend as
a weak high pressure ridge aloft builds over the region.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
more likely. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
neighbors.
