Coastal Flood Statement
Statement as of 3:30 am EDT on September 8, 2008

... The rip current risk for the Delaware and New Jersey surf
is moderate and approaching high through 8:00 PM today...

Long period swells from distant tropical cyclones will continue to
affect the waters in the surf zone today. Waves in the surf zone
will be 2 to 4 feet. A moderate risk of rip currents is forecast
for today, and it will approach high.

A moderate risk of rip currents implies that individuals planning
to enter the surf should check with local beach patrols first.

A high risk of rip currents means dangerous and potentially life
threatening conditions exist for all people who enter the surf. Life
guards have reported dangerous conditions existing in the surf over
the past several days.

Many beaches are no longer are guarded, and it is important to
swim only within sight of a life guard. Never swim alone or at
night.
