Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:54 am CDT on July 9, 2008

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri... including the
following areas... in southeast Kansas... Cherokee. In
Missouri... Barry... Christian... Douglas... Greene... Howell...
Jasper... Lawrence... McDonald... Newton... Oregon... Ozark...
Shannon... stone... Taney... Texas... Webster and Wright.

* Through this evening

* widespread rainfall amounts will range from one to three
inches across central and southern Missouri through Wednesday.

* The expected rainfall amounts could cause flash flooding
across portions of extreme southeast Kansas and the Missouri
Ozarks Wednesday. Creeks and rivers over low lying
roads and low water crossings are most prone to flooding.

Those camping and floating on Ozark streams should be
alert for rising water levels and flooding.

Flash flooding is the number one weather related killer across
southeast Kansas and southern Missouri. Motorists are urged not
to cross flooded roadways. You should monitor later forecasts and
be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

Forecast as of 3:55 am CDT on July 9, 2008

Now
Through 600 am...an area of rain and embedded thunderstorms will continue to expand across portions of extreme southeast Kansas as well as southern and south central Missouri. Widespread light to moderate rain can be expected with this activity...with embedded thunderstorms producing very heavy rainfall. In addition...wind gusts to 30 mph and frequent cloud to ground lightning can be expected. Rainfall amounts of one quarter to three quarters of an inch per hour will be common with locally higher amounts in excess of one inch. Locally heavy rainfall will result in ponding of water on area roadways...as well as elevated creek and stream levels. Flooding will be possible as this rainfall will persist into the daylight hours of Wednesday morning.
