Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 3:54 PM EDT on July 24, 2008

... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 815 PM EDT for small
streams in Washington County in central Vermont... and western Orleans
County in northeast Vermont... and eastern Franklin and LaMoille
counties in northwest Vermont...

At 342 PM EDT National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate scattered light to moderate showers across the warned
counties. Although the heavy widespread rain from earlier today has
moved out of the area... heavier showers may redevelop over north
central Vermont through this evening. Additional rainfall amounts up
to one inch are possible.

Rainfall amounts of one to one a half inches have already fallen in
the warned area... with the heaviest precipitation affecting
northeast LaMoille and western Orleans counties. In
particular... the gihon river and its local creeks will be most
susceptible to flooding through this evening. Persons along these
waterways should remain alert and be prepared to move to higher
ground if flood waters threaten.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Do not attempt to cross bridges... dips... or low spots if water covers
the roadway. Never try to cross a flowing stream... even a small
one... on foot. Turn around... Don/T drown!

Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:37 PM EDT on July 24, 2008

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* the northern Adirondacks of New York... the entire Champlain
Valley... and all of central and northern Vermont.

* Through Friday morning

* showers and scattered thunderstorms will continue across the
north country tonight... with locally heavy rainfall possible.
Storm totals since Wednesday are expected to range from 1 to 4
inches across the watch area... with isolated higher amounts.
Showers will taper off overnight... but flood effects could
linger into Friday morning.

* Rainfall over the previous week has saturated soils and
increased the water levels in rivers and streams. Additional
runoff from todays rainfall will result in an increased flood
threat across a good portion of the north country.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding. You should
monitor later forecasts... and those living in areas prone to
flooding... should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio... your local media... or
go to www.Weather.Gov/Burlington for further updates on this
weather situation.
