Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 9:32 PM EDT on July 23, 2008

The National Weather Service in Burlington has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Addison County in central Vermont
Rutland County in southern Vermont

* until 515 am EDT Thursday

* at 932 PM EDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
widespread heavy rain across Addison and Rutland counties in
Vermont. Radar has estimated 1 to 2 inches of rain has fallen in
the warned area. With heavy rain expected to continue through the
overnight hours... an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain is likely.
This will cause significant rises on local rivers and streams...
resulting in flooding across Addison and Rutland counties of
Vermont.

Be especially cautious at night when it is more difficult to
recognize the dangers of floods. Slow down and be ready to stop for
water over the roadway. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 10:30 PM EDT on July 23, 2008

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* the northern Adirondacks of New York... the entire Champlain
Valley... and the remainder of Vermont.

* Through Thursday afternoon

* rainfall will be moderate to heavy at times across much of
northern New York and Vermont during the overnight hours and
into Thursday. Some thunderstorms will also be possible. Given
the tropical nature of the moisture... the threat for flooding
will increase as total rainfall amounts from this event will be
in the 2 to 4 inch range with isolated amounts to 5 inches. With
heavy antecedent rainfall over the past 5 days... these
additional amounts will result in an increased threat of
flooding across a good portion of the north country.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding. You should
monitor later forecasts... and those living in areas prone to
flooding... should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio... your local media... or
go to www.Weather.Gov/Burlington for further updates on this
weather situation.
