The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
city of Manassas in northern Virginia
Fauquier County in northern Virginia
Prince William County in northern Virginia

* until 530 am EDT Monday

* at 1127 PM EDT... radar indicated very heavy rain over Prince
William and Fauquier counties nearly stationary. Over three inches
have already fallen and another two three inches will be possible
through 530 am. Numerous roads have been reported across Fauquier
County.

Some locations that will continue to be affected by the heavy rain
include Bealeton... Bull Run... Dale City... Delaplane... Dumfries...
Haymarket... Hume... Lake ridge... Montclair... the plains... Triangle...
Warrenton and Woodbridge.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

The National Weather Service in Sterling WFO has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Rappahannock River at Remington.
* From late tonight to Monday afternoon.
* At 10:15 PM Sunday the stage was 9.4 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early tomorrow and continue to
rise to near 15.4 feet by tomorrow morning. The river will fall
below flood stage by tomorrow late morning.
At 15.0 feet, water inundates a few structures south of town..


Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway... this is how most
flood deaths result.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for the latest on
this situation.


A followup statement will be issued in approximately 6 hours.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Maryland... the District of Columbia and Virginia...
including the following areas... in Maryland... Anne Arundel...
Calvert... Carroll... Charles... Frederick MD... Harford...
Howard... Montgomery... northern Baltimore... Prince Georges...
southern Baltimore and St. Marys. The District of Columbia. In
Virginia... Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria... Fairfax...
Fauquier... King George... Loudoun... Prince
William/Manassas/Manassas Park and Stafford.

* Through Monday afternoon

* expect moderate to heavy rain to continue through the overnight
hours... especially over the Baltimore and Washington DC Metro
areas. Rain will diminish from southwest to northeast Monday.
One to three inches of rain... with localized amounts near 5
inches... will fall on top of saturated soils. Intermittent rain
will end from southwest to northeast Monday afternoon.

* The heavy rain may cause streams and creeks to overflow their
banks. Also... urban areas prone to poor drainage will be
susceptible to flooding. As the water works its way into the
rivers Monday... river flooding will be possible.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop. Motorists should
take extra caution while driving near flooded areas at night.
