Coastal Flood Warning, Coastal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 11:08 am EDT on May 12, 2008

... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect until midnight EDT
tonight...
... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect from midnight tonight
to 6 PM EDT Tuesday...

Strong northerly winds on the back side of a low pressure system
moving northeast off the Delmarva will contribute to rising water
over portions of Hampton Roads. This will cause moderate to
potentially severe coastal flooding around the time of high tide
late tonight and early Tuesday morning... and again Tuesday
afternoon.

Tide levels are expected to increase to 1.5 to 2 feet above
normal this afternoon and evening... then 2.5 to 3 feet above
normal late tonight through Tuesday afternoon. The following are
the times and forecasted levels of high tides... with the tide
levels referenced to mean lower low water.

Location time of high tide expected height

Sewells Point 447 am Tuesday 6.5 ft
                  518 PM Tuesday 6.0 ft

Duck Pier 257 am Tuesday 6.5 ft
                  344 PM Tuesday 6.2 ft

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

High Wind Warning
Statement as of 10:16 am EDT on May 12, 2008

... High Wind Warning in effect from 3 PM this afternoon to 4 am
EDT Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a High Wind
Warning... which is in effect from 3 PM this afternoon to 4 am EDT
Tuesday. The Wind Advisory is no longer in effect.

Low pressure moves off the Delmarva coast this afternoon and
strengthens as it slowly shifts northeast of the area. As a
result... northerly winds in coastal locations of Maryland...
Virginia and North Carolina will increase to 30 to 40 mph with
gusts to near 60 mph late this afternoon and tonight.

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of
58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
