Coastal Flood Advisory Statement as of 10:30 am CST on November 9, 2009

The coastal Flood Advisory is now in effect until noon CST
Tuesday.

Tides will continue to average between 1 and 1.5 feet above
normal through Tuesday. The actual tides will be between 2 and
2.7 feet above mean sea level at the time of high tide. Incoming
large swells will also add to the coastal flood threat. Swells will
push the water up to the dunes consistently today and tonight on Padre
Island. Beach access roads will likely become flooded. Other low-
lying spots along the coast such as Laguna shores Road in Flour
Bluff will also become flooded in spots. Alternate routes of
travel may be necessary.

The next high tides at Port Aransas will occur at 1101 PM CST
this evening and at 833 am CST Tuesday morning. The next high tide at
Port Oconnor will occur at 513 am CST Tuesday morning.

In addition to the coastal flooding... there will be a high risk of
rip currents today. The incoming large swells and northeast winds
will produce dangerous rip current conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Driving on area beaches is not recommended today and tomorrow due
to the high tidal levels. Camping on the beach should be
discouraged as well.

Swimming and other marine-related activities are highly
discouraged due to the threat from heavy surf and rip currents.
Heavy surf and rip currents pose a danger to anyone in the water.

If you are caught in a rip current... do not panic. Escape the
current by swimming in a direction following the shoreline until
you are free from the rip current.
