Heat Advisory
Statement as of 12:22 am CDT on July 6, 2009

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

A combination of high temperatures with high relative humidity
will produce widespread heat index values of 110 to 115 degrees
across the Rio Grande Valley this afternoon. Overnight low
temperatures will only lower to near 80.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Managers of personnel working outside this afternoon should be
aware of the need for plenty of breaks and ample water and rest
for workers.

Children... the elderly and people with chronic ailments are
usually the first to suffer from excessive heat. Cramps or in
extreme cases heat exhaustion and heat stroke can result from
prolonged exposure to these oppressive conditions. Please take
the responsibility of checking on people who may be at risk today
and Monday.

A heat advisory is issued when the heat index... a measure of how
it feels when temperature and humidity are combined... equals or
exceeds 111 for 2 hours or more during the day... and observed
nighttime temperatures remain 75 degrees or above.
