Fire Weather Warning
Statement as of 5:12 am CDT on May 12, 2008

... Red flag warning in effect from 10 am this morning to 9 PM CDT
this evening...

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a red flag
warning... which is in effect from 10 am this morning to 9 PM CDT
this evening for the western and central portions of the Texas and
Oklahoma panhandles. This warning replaces the Fire Weather Watch.

South to southwest winds will increase to 20 to 25 mph by late
morning... with gusts around 40 mph at times during the afternoon.
These winds will combine with relative humidities between 5 and 10
percent to produce critical fire weather conditions. These conditions
are expected to remain in place through the evening when winds begin
to diminish and relative humidities climb above 15 percent.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are
either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of strong
winds... low relative humidity... and dry fuels will create extreme
fire growth potential.

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the field of
this red flag warning.
