Heat Advisory
Statement as of 2:35 PM CDT on July 5, 2009

... Heat advisory now in effect until 7 PM CDT Monday...

The heat advisory is now in effect until 7 PM CDT Monday.

A combination of high temperatures with high relative humidity
will produce widespread heat index values of 110 to 115 degrees
across the Rio Grande Valley Sunday and Monday afternoons.
Overnight low temperatures will only lower between 75 to 82
degrees.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Managers of personnel working outside today and Monday should be
aware of the need for plenty of breaks and ample water and rest
for workers.

Children... the elderly and people with chronic ailments are
usually the first to suffer from excessive heat. Cramps or in
extreme cases heat exhaustion and heat stroke can result from
prolonged exposure to these oppressive conditions. Please take
the responsibility of checking on people who may be at risk today
and Monday.

A heat advisory is issued when the heat index... a measure of how
it feels when temperature and humidity are combined... equals or
exceeds 111 for 2 hours or more during the day... and observed
nighttime temperatures remain 75 degrees or above... for two
consecutive days or more.
