High Surf Advisory
Statement as of 11:46 PM EDT on August 21, 2008

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EDT Friday...

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EDT Friday.

A persistent strong onshore flow will maintain breakers of 5 to 7
ft in the surf zone along South Carolina beaches through Friday.
This high surf will create hazardous conditions in the surf zone
including frequent rip currents. The high surf will also
contribute to significant beach erosion... especially on east and
northeast facing beaches around the times of high tide.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio all hazards... TV... or your local
news source for the latest weather information from the National
Weather Service. Additional information is also available on the
internet at www.Weather.Gov/chs.

Wind Advisory
Statement as of 10:42 PM EDT on August 21, 2008

... Wind Advisory now in effect until 8 am EDT Friday...

The Wind Advisory is now in effect until 8 am EDT Friday.

Onshore winds will remain strong tonight along the South
Carolina coast. East winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected through
the overnight hours within about 5 miles of the coast. Winds
could gust as high as 50 mph in squalls at times. Farther
inland... winds will be a bit weaker... generally 15 to 25 mph with
gusts to 30 mph. Winds will slowly diminish toward daybreak...
however breezy conditions will continue through Friday.

Winds on some of the taller bridges can be even stronger. This
includes... the Ravenel bridge... the Don Holt bridge... the James
b. Edwards bridge... the Ben Sawyer bridge... the Isle of Palms
connector and the Woods Memorial bridge.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution especially on bridges and
overpasses.

Hurricane Statement
Statement as of 12:09 am EDT on August 22, 2008

... Fay slowly drifting west over northeast Florida... bringing
bands of heavy rain and gusty winds to southeast South Carolina
and southeast Georgia...

... New information...
storm position... current conditions and impacts have been updated.

... Areas affected...
this statement recommends specific actions to be taken by
residents and visitors of southeast South Carolina.

... Watches/warnings...
the following are in effect for the area...
high surf advisory... Wind Advisory...

... Storm surge and storm tide...
tides are running 1 to 1.5 feet above predicted levels... and are
expected to remain 1 to 2 feet above predicted levels through
Friday.

Moderate beach erosion is expected with major erosion possible on
northeast facing shorelines and beaches such as Folly Beach...
Edisto Island... and wild dunes. Minor coastal flooding could also
occur if tides climb above 2 feet greater than normal. High tide
occurred in the Charleston Harbor at midnight.

... Winds...
near the coast... winds are averaging 30 to 35 mph... with gusts up
to 45 mph within squalls. Inland... winds are averaging 15 to 25 mph.
Gusts of 35 to 45 mph will be common within squalls... especially
closer to the coast. These speeds are expected to continue through
the overnight hours.

Wind gusts in excess of 40 mph could break tree branches and
limbs... which could fall on power lines. Saturated soils from
heavy rains experienced over the past few weeks may also increase
the risk for downed trees and power lines.

... Inland flooding...
bands of showers and thunderstorms will continue to periodically
move across the area through the overnight hours. Rainfall totals
of 2 to 4 inches are possible through Friday... with isolated
locations receiving up to 5 inches. The risk for flooding may
become locally enhanced should heavy rains fall during times of
high tide. High tide occurred in the Charleston Harbor at midnight.

... Tornadoes...
there is a risk for isolated tornadoes across the region through
Friday... as bands of showers and isolated thunderstorms move
rapidly across the area.

... Rip currents...
there is a high risk for rip currents through Friday.

... Next update...
the next Tropical Storm Fay local statement will be issued by the
National Weather Service in Charleston around 3 am or sooner if
conditions warrant.

Additional information can be found in advisories issued by the
National Hurricane Center... as well as public information
statements and short term forecasts issued by this office.
