Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:21 PM EDT on July 24, 2008

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight EDT
tonight...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York...
including the following areas... in southern Connecticut...
northern New London and southern New London. In southeast New
York... northeastern Suffolk and southeastern Suffolk.

* Until midnight EDT tonight

* the threat of showers and thunderstorms will diminish this
evening as the front continues to move east.

* Up to 1 inch of additional rainfall is expected through this
evening... with locally higher amounts. This rainfall... on top of
the rain late last night into early today will likely cause
flash flooding of small streams... urban areas and poor drainage
spots within the watch area... as well as sharp rises on larger
streams and rivers. Flooding of flood prone basements is also
likely.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Forecast as of 4:11 PM EDT on July 24, 2008

Now
Showers continue to cover most of New London and eastern Suffolk counties as of 4:10 PM. These showers...and a scattered thunderstorm will continue through 6 PM. Heavy rain is possible and any additional rain will lead to continued poor drainage flooding and roadway ponding.
