Coastal Flood Statement
Statement as of 3:18 am EDT on September 7, 2008

... The rip current risk for the Delaware and New Jersey surf
waters is moderate approaching high through 8:00 PM today...

The surf will continue to be roiled in the wake of Tropical Storm
Hanna today. Waves in the surf zone will start out at 4 to 6 feet,
but subside this morning to 2 to 4 feet under the influence of a
lighter offshore wind. However, a moderate risk of rip currents is
still forecast for today, and it may approach high.

A moderate risk of rip currents implies that individuals planning
to enter the surf should check with local beach patrols first.

A high risk of rip currents means dangerous and potentially life
threatening conditions exist for all people who enter the surf. Life
guards have reported dangerous conditions existing in the surf over
the past several days.

Please keep in mind that many beaches are no longer are guarded, and
that it is important to swim only within sight of a life guard.
Never swim alone or at night.
