Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 8:56 PM CDT on July 3, 2009

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued an

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
Atchison County in northwest Missouri...
Nodaway County in northwest Missouri...
northern Gentry County in northwest Missouri...
northern Holt County in northwest Missouri...
Worth County in northwest Missouri...

* until 200 am CDT

* at 853 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms with heavy rainfall continuing to move eastward
across the advisory area. Doppler radar estimated upwards of 1 to
1.5 inches of rain had fallen in the advisory area in the past 2
hours. This rainfall is expected to cause minor street flooding
along with ponding of water in low-lying areas and ditches.
Additional thunderstorms are expected to develop across
southeastern Nebraska and southern Iowa through the early morning
hours of Saturday and may also move through the advisory area.

* Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to
occur... especially along small streams and near low water
crossings. Some locations that will experience minor flooding
include... Albany... Maryville... Stanberry... Tarkio... Burlington
Junction... Fairfax... Grant City... Hopkins... Ravenwood... Rockport
and Skidmore.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause minor flooding of small
creeks and streams... country roads... as well as farmland along the
banks of creeks and streams.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Do not
drive through areas where water covers the roadway.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

To report flooding... have the nearest law enforcement agency relay
your report to the National Weather Service forecast office in
Pleasant Hill.

... Urban and small stream flood advisory for remains in effect for
southern Nodaway... Holt and northern Andrew counties until midnight
CDT...

At 744 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the advisory
area. Radar estimates of upwards of one and a half to as much as two
inches of rain had fallen in areas from Craig... to Big Lake... Mound
City and eastward towards Maitland and Bolckow in the past 6 hours.
Additional thunderstorms are developing across portions of northern
Kansas and southeastern Nebraska and may move over these same
locations later this evening.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Mound
City... Craig... Fillmore and Maitland.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of small creeks
and streams... country roads... normally dry washes... as well as
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

In hilly terrain... there are hundreds of low water crossings which
are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It only takes a few
inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

Report flooding to the nearest law enforcement agency so that they
may take appropriate action to close flooded roadways. They will
relay your report to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
