* at 711 am EDT radar indicated several thunderstorms crossing
through portions of eastern Massachusetts into northern Rhode
Island. The storms are moving to the northeast at 25 mph... and
are producing brief periods of heavy rain. Rainfall rates in
these thunderstorms range from 0.25 to 0.5 inch per hour.

This will be sufficient to produce minor flooding in low lying and
poor drainage areas... including some underpasses. Motorists should
use caution during the morning commute.

* Through late tonight

* a cold front moving very slowly towards the watch area will produce
numerous showers and thunderstorms through this evening. Some of
these thunderstorms will produce torrential rains of 1 to 3 inches
per hour.

* Widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected...
bringing the potential for flooding. Isolated totals up to 5 inches
are possible. Given the potential for torrential downpours... the
threat for flash flooding exists as well... especially in urban
areas.
