Statement as of 1:04 PM CST on November 9, 2009

... Precautionary/preparedness actions...
precautionary/preparedness actions...

Final preparations to protect life and property should be
completed before conditions deteriorate. The onset of gusty winds
and heavy rains can cause outside activities to become dangerous.
Secure loose outdoor objects which can be blown around. If you
live in a Mobile home... leave it for more substantial shelter.

... Winds...
as Tropical Storm Ida approaches... sustained tropical storm force
winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph are expected to begin late
this evening and continue through Tuesday morning. Minor damage
may occur in older Mobile home Parks. Newly planted trees and
shrubs may be uprooted if not secured properly. Weak tree branches
may snap. Residents should move unfastened items... such as garbage
cans and deck furniture... indoors.

... Storm surge and storm tide...
tides are currently running around 3 feet above normal due to
persistent east winds. These high tide levels have lead to some Road
closures this afternoon. Minor storm surge flooding of 3 to 5
feet can be expected outside of hurricane protection levees from this
afternoon through Tuesday morning as Tropical Storm Ida moves through
the coastal waters of Louisiana and Mississippi. Some non elevated
homes in these areas may experience flooding. Minor to moderate
tidal flooding of property and perhaps some flooding of low lying
roads may occur during high tide.
