Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 12:40 am EDT on July 9, 2008

... A broken line of showers and strong thunderstorms to affect the
area through early morning Wednesday...

Strong thunderstorms have marched across the commonwealth this
evening. At 1235 am EDT... showers and strong thunderstorms were
located along a line extending from just west of Morehead... in Rowan
County... to just west of McKee... in Jackson County.

This line of showers and thunderstorms will pass through the area
between 1 am and 2 am early Wednesday morning. An outflow boundary
running slightly ahead of this line has a history of producing very
gusty winds to around 40 mph. Residents should expect brief heavy
rain... with rainfall rates of up to one inch per hour... very gusty
winds of 30 to 40 mph and frequent lightning in these areas.

Dangerous cloud to ground lightning is associated with these
thunderstorms. Take shelter immediately. Remember... if you can hear
thunder then lightning is close enough to be a hazard.

Forecast as of 11:45 PM EDT on July 8, 2008

Now
A broken line of showers and thunderstorms will move into the area between midnight and 1 am early Wednesday morning. Up to a quarter inch of rain will be possible where precipitation occurs between midnight and 2 am. Around a half inch of rain will be possible in the strongest thunderstorms...which will likely contain very gusty winds between 35 and 45 mph...and frequent lightning as well.
