Coastal Flood Statement
Statement as of 2:24 PM EST on November 9, 2009

... Rough surf and minor beach erosion at east central Florida
beaches...

Strong east southeast winds over the Atlantic waters this
afternoon and tonight will bring rough and dangerous surf to the
beaches. Children should not wade into the surf due to the strong
breaking waves expected.

Wind and ocean conditions will also produce a moderate threat of
rip currents. Only enter the surf near a lifeguard and never swim
alone in the Ocean.

Beach erosion has been reported with the high tide at Fort Pierce
inlet and Waveland beach. Surf reached the dune line at Jensen
Beach and some erosion is beginning in spots. The next high tide
will occur between 1 and 2 am tonight.

Rough surf and pounding waves will affect the beaches. The rough
surf may knock you down and make you susceptible to being caught
in a rip current. Do not venture far into the surf at east
central Florida beaches this afternoon.

Lake Wind Advisory
Statement as of 3:55 am EST on November 9, 2009

... Lake Wind Advisory in effect from 9 am this morning to 5 PM
EST this afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a lake Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 9 am this morning to 5 PM EST
this afternoon.

Sustained east winds around 20 mph with numerous gusts between 30
and 35 mph can be expected today across east central Florida.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A lake Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast
to reach 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Such strong and gusty
winds will create rough and hazardous boating conditions on area
lakes and the intracoastal waters. This may result in high waves
which may tip or swamp small craft.

Forecast as of 1:14 PM EST on November 9, 2009

Now
windy conditions continue....a few showers across Volusia County... Through 4pm a few small showers will continue to move onshore and inland across Volusia County. Other small showers will approach the coast of Brevard and Indian River counties. The strong pressure gradient between Tropical Storm Ida in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and high pressure in the Atlantic will keep the winds strong and gusty today...especially along the coast where wind gusts to 30 mph are possible the surf will remain rough...especially around high tide between 1 and 3pm this afternoon. A high threat of rip currents continues. Winds will gust above 25 mph at times over inland areas and a lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until this evening.
