Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 7:10 PM MDT on July 5, 2009

... The Arroyo and small stream flood advisory remains in effect until
830 PM MDT for extreme southeastern Pueblo... north central Las
Animas... southwestern bent and southern Otero counties...

At 707 PM MDT... Doppler radar showed the heavy rain has moved out of
the flood advisory. The area of heaviest rain was around
Timpas... where a weather spotter recorded nearly 3 inches of rain.

Drainage basins most affected will be Benton Arroyo... Timpas
creek... and south Dry Creek. Minor flooding will be likely across
these drainage basins in the Timpas area. In these basins... water
will flow north toward the Arkansas River through 830 PM... and could
cause some minor flooding south and east of Rockyford... and south of
Swink. No major flooding has been reported.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

If you are in or close to the flood advisory area be cautious when
approaching water... either on foot or in a vehicle. If you are along
a creek or drainage area... monitor water levels and be prepared to
take action to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross
swiftly flowing water or still water of unknown depth on foot or by
vehicle. Be cautious at night when it is harder to determine the
depth of water.
