Statement as of 3:03 PM MDT on May 11, 2008

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 8 PM MDT this
evening for west central Colorado fire zone 203 below 7000 feet

... Fire Weather Watch is cancelled for Monday for west central
Colorado fire zone 203 below 7000 feet...

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has cancelled the
Fire Weather Watch for Monday for the west central Colorado fire
zone 203.

However... a red flag warning remains in effect until 8 PM MDT
today for the west central Colorado fire zone 203 below 7000 feet
elevation for gusty winds and low humidity. This includes the
Interstate 70 corridor and Grand Valley.

Southwest winds will continue to strengthen throughout the late
afternoon hours today. Wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph along with relative
humidity of 10 to 15 percent are expected throgh early evening.
These will combine with dry fuels below 7000 feet elevation to
create the potential for dangerous fire growth late this afternoon
and early evening in the warning area.

The Fire Weather Watch for Monday below 7000 feet for the west
central Colorado fire zone 203 has been cancelled. While strong gusty
winds are expected Monday... humidity will not remain below criteria
long enough before a cold front sweeps through in the mid-
afternoon hours.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly.
