... Very hot conditions expected for the remainder of the week...

Very hot conditions will develop later this week as high pressure
develops along the California coast. With increasing temperatures
aloft each day through midweek... there is the potential for near
record high temperatures during the middle of the upcoming week.
In addition... the marine layer will be confined to the immediate
coast which will even allow for inland coastal areas to warm to
much above normal.

Temperatures across the mountains and inland valleys will likely
climb to around 100 to 105 degrees... with temperatures in the
Antelope Valley reaching 105 to 110 degrees. Heat index values
will approach 100 degrees. Interior and foothills portions of
coastal section will see afternoon temperatures top out near 90
degrees.

Valley and mountain areas will warm further on Tuesday.
Temperatures will approach or exceed 105 degrees in the warmest
valley and mountain locations. In the Antelope Valley... highs
will be around 110 degrees... near to or eclipsing record levels.
Across coastal sections... temperatures will generally range from
the 70s at the beaches... to around 90 inland... with foothill
locations likely approaching or exceeding 100 degrees. Heat index
values will likely exceed 100 degrees on Tuesday in the
Valley... Mountain... and desert locations.

Strong high pressure will remain in place for midweek... continuing
very hot conditions for Wednesday. An expected increase in
monsoonal moisture will push over the area on Wednesday. It is
possible that it will be more humid which will make heat index
values push higher to near 105 in some areas. Hot and humid
conditions will likely persist into Friday..and possibly through
the remainder of the week. Heat index values will likely remain
above 100 degrees in some areas... although afternoon high
temperatures may decrease.

With increasing monsoonal moisture expected for mid to late week.
A slight chance of thunderstorms is forecast for the mountains
and deserts from Wednesday through the weekend. When the moisture
arrives on Wednesday... its arrival will likely occur at the
middle-levels of the atmosphere... bringing a slight chance for dry
thunderstorms to the mountains and deserts on Wednesday afternoon.

People should never leave children or animals in parked vehicles
even with the windows cracked... death will likely result. Continue
to drink plenty of fluids... stay out of the sunshine... and check
relatives and neighbors.
