Heat Advisory
Statement as of 1:50 PM PDT on July 8, 2008

... Heat advisory in effect until 5 PM PDT Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a heat
advisory for the central and southern Sacramento Valley... Delta
area and northern San Joaquin Valley... which is in effect until 5
PM PDT Thursday.

Strong high pressure will continue to bring record to near record
temperatures through Thursday. In addition... winds will be light
in most areas which will result in continued smokey conditions
from area fires. The smoke will help slow daytime heating but also
keep nighttime minimum temperatures warmer. As a result... high
temperatures are expected to be mainly between 105 and 110 degrees
in the central and southern Sacramento Valley... northern San
Joaquin Valley... and the Delta area. Overnight lows are forecast
to be in the upper 60s near the Delta with mostly 70s in the
Valley. High temperatures on Friday are expected to be slightly
cooler Friday with 90s near the Delta and 100 to 108 inland. More
significant cooling with improving air quality is forecast over
the weekend.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. Extended periods of heat can create a situation in which
heat illnesses are possible. People are advised to limit outdoor
activities and prolonged exposure to the heat and smokey air...
especially those with respiratory conditions... and those more
sensitive to heat such as the elderly and Young children. For
