Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 8:55 PM PDT on July 23, 2008

... Areas of smoke will continue over parts of the interior of
northern California...

Satellite imagery indicated a large area of smoke from the yolla
Bolly fire complex... near Paskenta... spread northeast into the
Redding area and towards Burney during the day on Wednesday. The
smoke was dense enough to lower visibilities to 3 miles or less
over portions of Shasta County.

Smoke also covers much of the northern and central Sacramento
Valley... and drifted as far south as Marysville by Wednesday
evening. A moderate Delta breeze is expected to be strong enough
to keep most of the smoke from spreading much further south into
the southern Sacramento Valley tonight.

Light winds overnight and during the day on Thursday are expected
to maintain very smoky conditions over the Shasta County mountains
and northern Sacramento Valley. Meanwhile... the continuation of a
moderate Delta breeze is expected to allow for better visibility
and air quality in the southern Sacramento Valley.

Smoke from fire complexes in Butte and Plumas counties is expected
to continue to spread towards Almanor and Quincy and through Thursday.

The smoky conditions will result in poor air quality and people
are advised to limit outdoor activities and prolonged exposure to
the smoky air... especially those with respiratory conditions. For
additional health tips on dealing with the smoke... please visit

quality district for further details.
