Excessive Heat Warning
Statement as of 1:50 PM PDT on July 8, 2008

... Excessive heat warning now in effect until 11 am PDT Friday...

Strong high pressure building inland will result in record to
near record temperatures over interior northern California through
Thursday. In addition... gusty downslope north to northeast wind
of 10 to 20 mph with local gusts 30 to 40 mph will continue into
Friday. The wind will help reduce smoke and provide additional
warming. As a result... high temperatures today through Thursday
are forecast to reach between 110 and 116 degrees in the northern
Sacramento Valley and Shasta Lake area with upper 90s to 110 in
the foothills and elevations below 5000 feet. Low temperatures
will be very warm with many areas remaining in the 80s overnight.
High temperatures Friday are expected be slightly cooler... between
105 to 110 in the lower elevations... and a gradual cooling trend
is expected into the weekend.

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. Extended periods of heat
can create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink
plenty of non alcoholic fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
neighbors... especially the elderly. For additional health tips on
dealing with the heat visit http://www.Oes.CA.Gov.
