Southwest Deserts Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 6:37 am PDT on July 9, 2009/

... Excessive heat outlook valid Saturday through Monday...

Strong high pressure will strengthen and expand across the southwest
United States from late Friday through Sunday. Excessively hot
temperatures will be possible by Saturday... and could last through at
least next Monday.

Temperatures 4 to 7 degrees above the climatological norm are
expected during this period. Daytime highs over the Lower Desert
will range from 109 to 114 degrees on Saturday... and from 111 to 116
degrees Sunday and Monday. Although the atmosphere will be relatively
dry... the heat index will still approach 110 degrees during the
afternoon hours. Nighttime lows will mainly be in the 80s... with
warmest minimum temperatures in highly urbanized areas.

Exposure to extreme heat can be unhealthy and dangerous. If you plan
on being outdoors... remember to remain hydrated by drinking plenty of
water... wear loose-fitting clothing and a hat... and remain in the
shade or indoors as much as possible. Check on those that need
additional assistance... such as Young children and the elderly.
