Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 3:27 PM CDT on May 9, 2008

... A significant severe weather outbreak is possible across parts of
the mid-south Saturday afternoon and Saturday night...

Low pressure will develop over the Southern Plains on Saturday and
move into the middle Mississippi Valley Saturday night... while a warm
front will surge north into the mid-south. This will bring a warm...
moist... and unstable airmass into the region ahead of a strong cold
front approaching from the west.

Severe thunderstorms will develop ahead of the cold front Saturday
afternoon and evening. An additional line of severe thunderstorms
will likely develop along and immediately ahead of the cold front as
it moves across the area Saturday night.

The main threats will be damaging winds... large hail... and tornadoes.
There is potential for a few strong tornadoes.

Locations along and south of a Jonesboro Arkansas to Jackson
Tennessee line have the best chance for severe thunderstorms and
tornadoes where a moderate risk is in effect.

The best time frame for severe weather will be between 1 PM CDT
Saturday afternoon and 3 am CDT early Sunday morning.

Mid-southerners should pay close attention to latest weather
information concerning this developing severe weather event.
