Synopsis For Eastern North Carolina Coastal Waters
Tropical Storm Hanna will approach from the S today and move through E North Carolina after midnight tonight into early Sat morning. Hanna will move rapidly NE out of the area during the day Sat. A weak cold front will move in from the W sun and become stnry...then dissipate Mon. Another cold front will approach from the NW on Tue.

Tonight
Tropical storm conditions expected. Se winds 30 to 35 kt with gusts to around 50 kt. Waves 3 to 5 ft. Showers with isolated tstms.
Sat
Tropical storm conditions expected. S winds 35 to 45 kt with gusts to around 60 kt. Waves around 5 ft. Showers with isolated tstms in the morning...then showers likely in the afternoon.
Sat Night
Tropical storm conditions expected. W winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts to around 40 kt...diminishing to 10 to 15 kt after midnight. Waves 2 to 3 ft. Showers likely early in the evening... then a slight chance of showers late in the evening.

NW winds 5 to 10 kt...becoming NE in the afternoon. Waves 1 ft. A slight chance of showers and tstms in the afternoon.

The center of Tropical Storm Hanna is now about 375 miles south of
Wilmington. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the
Albemarle Sound. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical
storm conditions are expected within the warning area within the
next 24 hours.

... Areas affected...

This statement recommends actions to be taken by persons in and
around the Albemarle Sound.

... Storm information...

At 1100 am EDT... the center of Tropical Storm Hanna was located
near latitude 28.9 north... longitude 79.2 west or about 375 miles...
south of Wilmington North Carolina.

Hanna is moving toward the northwest near 20 mph. A gradual turn
to the north with an increase in forward speed is expected later
this afternoon. On the forecast track... the center of Hanna will be near
the southeast coast of the United States tonight. However... rains and
winds associated with Hanna will reach the coast well in advance
of the center.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 65 mph... with higher gusts.
Only slight strengthening is forecast prior to landfall...
although it is still possible for Hanna to become a hurricane.

The minimum central pressure just reported by the aircraft was
980 mb... 28.94 inches.

No additional hazards are in effect.

... Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Boat owners should take action now to secure their boats. If out
on the open water... make way to seek safe Harbor. Be especially
cautious near inlet entrances where the incoming swell could
become steep when the tide is falling.

A 1 to 2 foot storm surge is possible by Saturday afternoon.

Sustained tropical storm force winds are expected to spread north
through the region tonight. These winds are expected to end by
Saturday evening. The strongest winds will occur Saturday morning
in the 35 to 45 kt range with higher gusts.

Waves of 3 feet are expected this afternoon... building to 4 to 5
feet tonight and Saturday.

A potential will exist for tornadoes as Hanna approaches and
crosses the region later today into Saturday.
